Trustworthy Reviews and Alternatives: A Comprehensive Guide

Should You Consider ClearChoice® for Your Dental Implants? An In-Depth Look.

Is ClearChoice® Dental the Best Option for Dental Implants? See What Patients Have to Say About Their Experience.

If you are considering dental implants, you have probably seen the pervasive television ads for ClearChoice®. With millions of dollars of promotion behind it, ClearChoice® is often mentioned by our clients. Who is ClearChoice®, and should you consider them an option for dental restoration?

First, you must understand that ClearChoice® is part of a wave of corporate dentistry and consolidation sweeping the nation. Larger consolidated business entities are replacing the local neighborhood dentists by hiring contract dentists that a company employs compared to a local, individually owned practice. This can lower costs and increase margins. In the case of ClearChoice®, they have informed us that their nationwide clinics are owned and operated by individual practitioners who join the ClearChoice® network, which is basically a franchise model.

Negative reviews about ClearChoice®, while often mentioning unsatisfactory treatment outcomes, are just as frequent about pressure sales tactics and aggressive treatment plans that boost their bottom line. This is one of the first differences between corporate dentistry and a practice where an individual professional is responsible for satisfying their patients.

We may have a bias here, as we have highly trained dentists in Mexico who are experienced and skilled at doing implants and the more comprehensive All-on-4 procedures. Still, when a company hires contract dentists like UPS drivers, it is not surprising that there are many negative reviews from unhappy patients and considerable negative reviews of ClearChoice®. For instance, TrustPilot.com, a well-recognized business review site, summed up the reviews of ClearChoice® as “poor,” with most ratings being either “poor” or “bad.”

Of course, unsatisfied people are more likely to write a review than someone happy with their treatment, and to be fair, ClearChoice® has many positive reviews on its website, but the same results are reported numerous times on other sites. Reviewopedia.com states, “Unfortunately, it appears as though many people have had poor experiences, feeling as though their implants were uncomfortable and the doctors they were working with did little to address this complaint.” Pissedconsumer.com (great name, right?) logged 394 ClearChoice® reviews as of this writing, and its results were similar to TrustPilot.com, saying that “The overall rating of the company is 2.0 (out of 5) and consumers are mostly dissatisfied.”

Many complaints center on sales tactics and customer service in keeping with the corporate appetite for more significant profits. In a variety of ClearChoice® reviews, there were complaints about pressure tactics, people being rushed to make a decision or being overcharged, refused refunds on work not done, and instances of charges being submitted to a patient’s bank without their approval. One TrustPilot review states, “It’s all about the money.”

You might expect complaints about quality or service from a discount operation, but ClearChoice® is far from inexpensive. Reviews of ClearChoice® on RealSelf.com reflect that 65% of the patients who reviewed ClearChoice® said the price was “not worth it.” A complete set of implants, or the All-on-4 procedure where some implants anchor an entire dental prosthetic, can cost $40,000.00 to $70,000.00. Pissedconsumer.com reviews said of ClearChoice®, “The price level is high, according to the consumer reviews. One reviewer said, “ClearChoice® Dental is expensive; you will end up paying an average fee of $35,000.00 per arch for a full set of All-On-Four’s with fixed implant dentures.” That’s $70,000.00 for a full-mouth restoration. In addition, patients complain of an extra $1,000.00 non-refundable fee for the evaluation. However, we have not confirmed that this is the current policy. (Side note: We can schedule a video consultation with our implantologists at no charge or for a minimal fee, depending on the seriousness of the treatment plan).

There are a couple of other points to be aware of when choosing ClearChoice®. First, our research shows that ClearChoice® Dental uses less respected brands of implant parts rather than the top-ranked Straumann® or Nobel Biocare® implant brands. Moreover, you can likely only return to ClearChoice® for any damaged or failed implant components. Most quality-conscious dentists widely use the other brands, and they can be replaced in dental clinics that perform implant procedures anywhere.

In addition, we find the advertising of “implants in one day” promoted by ClearChoice® to be misleading. First, a bone graft may be necessary if you have any bone loss over time (and most patients do). It takes months to heal before an implant can be placed in the jawbone. If teeth need to be extracted, they have to heal as well. Even if the implants can be placed in one visit, they have to seat and bond into the jawbone before the process can be completed and you receive your permanent teeth. So don’t expect this to be an afternoon at the beach, and voila! Your implants are done. We have found that this sets up unrealistic expectations for our patients.

Since ClearChoice® has clinics and dentists nationwide with a variety of levels of skill and experience, some are bound to be better than others, and there are undoubtedly satisfied patients, as their website reflects. But if you get medical advice from a TV ad without further research, it’s “Buyer Beware.”
